Key takeaway
Mallorca's culinary heritage is not in restaurants, it is in kitchens. The island's most important dishes are family recipes, passed down through grandparents, cooked at home, and shaped by what the land produces each season. Soqueta Experiences exists to share exactly that.
Mallorca, the largest of Spain's Balearic Islands, is not just a destination for stunning beaches and breathtaking landscapes. It is a culinary island, one with a food heritage that runs centuries deep and tastes unlike anywhere else in the Mediterranean.
What Makes Soqueta Experiences Different
Soqueta Experiences provides an authentic taste of Mallorcan cuisine through hands-on cooking workshops, guided market tours, and private dining events. Led by local chef Paula Mas Boned, born and raised in Sant Jordi, every experience is built around her family's recipes and her knowledge of the island's food traditions.
Paula learned to cook from her grandfather Tomeu. His almond ice cream machine still sits in the Soqueta kitchen. His recipe ratios still govern the gató de almendra. The heritage at Soqueta is not a concept, it is a specific, living thing.
Culinary Market Tours
The Market Tour & Cooking Experience begins at Mercado Olivar in central Palma, the island's main covered market, trading since 1951. Chef Paula has known many of the vendors for years. She introduces you to the people who grow and sell the food, explains what is in season, and helps you select the ingredients you will cook that morning.
The market tour is not sightseeing. You are shopping with a purpose: everything you buy, you will cook.
Traditional Cooking Workshops
The hands-on cooking experience that follows the market tour takes place in the Soqueta kitchen in Sant Jordi, 10 minutes from Palma. You cook a three-course Mallorcan meal from scratch, dishes like tumbet, arrós brut, and gató de almendra, using the traditional techniques that Chef Paula learned from her family.
For a full list of the dishes you might learn to prepare, see Traditional Mallorcan Recipes.
Private Dining and Group Events
For groups looking for a more bespoke experience, Soqueta organises private cooking sessions and corporate team building events. Menus are tailored to the group, dietary requirements are accommodated, and every booking is designed around the specific group rather than a fixed format.
The Groups & Couples experience covers private bookings for smaller groups. For corporate and team events, see the Team Building experience.
The Food Heritage of Mallorca
Mallorcan cuisine is the product of Arabic, Catalan, and island farming traditions, a layering of influences over centuries that has produced something entirely distinct. The island's signature ingredients, sobrassada, ensaïmada, Mallorcan almonds, local olive oil, are all protected by European geographical indications precisely because they cannot be made anywhere else.
For a guide to the vocabulary and history of Mallorcan food, the Mallorcan Food Glossary covers the essential terms from pa amb oli to greixonera.
Whether you are a food enthusiast or simply looking to connect with the island's culture, Soqueta Experiences offers a culinary journey that goes beyond tasting, you cook it, you understand it, and you take it home with you.
